Andy Roddick explains why Andre Agassi can really help Holger Rune

Holger Rune has understood that he has to make a change in his career and it is for this reason that he has started a very interesting collaboration with a legend like Andre Agassi, who made tennis history as a player and also had a brief experience as Novak Djokovic’s coach in the most delicate moment of the Serbian’s career.

The young Dane has not shone even in this first part of 2025, in which he has not found the right consistency, although he had two high-level highs in Indian Wells (where he reached the final losing to Jack Draper) and in Barcelona (where he lifted the trophy by beating local idol Carlos Alcaraz in the last act).

The former Top 5 disappointed the expectations of fans and insiders especially at Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships, in which he proved to be still very far from the level of champions such as Jannik Sinner and Carlitos Alcaraz.

Until a few years ago, Rune was considered as the most viable alternative to the dominance of the Italian and the Spaniard, but his rise has suddenly stopped and even Nick Kyrgios recently admitted that he would have expected something more from him in recent seasons.

Rune is seeded at three in Washington

In any case, Holger is still very young and has time to become a true champion. Agassi worked with him for only three days before the start of the Washington ATP, but it is not excluded that their collaboration could become stable in the second half of the season.

On the latest episode of his famous podcast, former world No. 1 Andy Roddick expressed his candid opinion on this intriguing partnership: “The number one reason why I like this, is because Andre doesn’t need the job.

And every other person who has kissed Holger’s ass and asked him for a job, has needed that job.

I’m sure they didn’t sign a two year deal. I’m sure it’s like ‘hey, let’s get some input. Let’s see if we can’t course correct. Let’s see if you can’t tap into my experiences, the things I did right and the things I did wrong.’ Which are sometimes more important and Holger is going to listen to Andre Agassi.”
