Carlos Alcaraz doesn't rule out playing the Toronto Masters 1000

After the Wimbledon Championships, most of the top players are resting before resuming training ahead of the US Open. The last Grand Slam of the season will take place in New York from August 24 to September 7 and will be preceded by the Masters 1000 in Toronto and Cincinnati, which will have the new 12-day format starting from the 2025 edition.

However – in the last 24 hours – the Canadian Open has had to suffer a series of really heavy forfeits. In particular, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and young English star Jack Draper have already announced that they will not be present in Canada later this month.

The Italian ace needs to recover his energy after winning his first title at the Championships just over a week ago and used the elbow injury to justify his forfeit in the tournament he won two years ago, winning the first 1000 of his career. The Serbian legend – on the other hand – motivated his decision with the muscle problem he suffered during the Wimbledon quarterfinals, a small injury that prevented him from being at the top of his shape against Sinner in the semifinals. Finally, Draper will also miss the Cincinnati Masters 1000 and will return to action directly at the US Open.

Alcaraz has not decided yet

Yesterday, a very reliable newspaper like ‘MARCA’ had spread the news that Carlos Alcaraz was also destined to miss the Toronto Masters 1000 (although there was no official yet). The 22-year-old Spaniard had already missed the Canadian Open in the last edition, having to recharge his batteries after the Paris Olympics.

However, his agent Albert Molina – during a promotional event held in Madrid today – did not rule out Carlitos’ presence in Ontario later this month.

“Carlos is actually considering whether or not to play in Toronto, we haven’t made a final decision yet,” said Molina, leaving some hope for Canadian fans.

The five-time Grand Slam champion will announce his decision within days.
